Energy Performance Certificates
From 1 October 2008 it is mandatory that a landlord should provide to a prospective tenant an ‘Energy Performance Certificate' produced by a qualified and accredited Domestic Energy Surveyor.
The survey highlights the energy efficiency of the property and makes suggestions in terms of how efficiency can be improved. Landlords are under no obligation to improved the efficiency of their property – the obligation is to provide the certificate,
Once a certificate is obtained it is valid for 10 years.
